Autism is a lifelong neuro-developmental disorder, which typically appears during the first three years of a child's life. It occurs in worldwide approximately one out of every 100 births and is four times more prevalent in males than females.Autism affects a person's ability to communicate, form relationships with others, and respond appropriately to the surrounding environment. Autism affects families throughout the world of all racial, ethnic and social backgrounds. It is a complex developmental disability that typically results in a neurological disorder which affects the functioning of the brain. It impacts the normal development of the brain in the areas of social interaction and communication skills, resulting typically in difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions, and leisure or play activities.

Autism is often referred to as a "spectrum" condition that affects people differently and to varying degrees. Today, more than 40,000 children, adolescents, and adults living in Israel from 1.5 years old to adulthood are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The growth rate of diagnosis increases at an average of 13% each year. To date, 1 in 78 children born in Israel will be diagnosed with Autism.

about-autism

The causes of Autism are yet unknown and no means for a prenatal diagnosis has yet been found.  At the same time, research shows that early diagnosis and intense behavioral intervention supports and improves the opportunities of people with autism to realize their personal goals and dreams.

With support and care individuals with autism can realize at least some of their personal goals and dreams.
